The little black girl on the white step
stoops near her mama smoking a cigarette
and her mama didnt get this way by accident, you would have never known.
When you saw her going to school straight as a pine and she didn’t get hit on and she hadn’t snuffed up lines.
Just a young girl looking at the world for the first time. Bad boys leave you high, little girl. Bad boys leave you high and feeling low, little girl. Little girl you better mind.
Mama tries to pay the rent of this white trash room, and sometimes its close and we have to move on through. Faces all feel the same in the dark and they change her bed around. Put the lights out and don’t make a sound. Mama’s got some work to do.
